Here are a few goodies I created with this month’s fabulous Frosty & Cold ribbon kit !!

The first layout was part of my scraplift challenge where I challenged you to scraplift a layout (etc.) of someone in our fabulously talented gallery.    You can see Kimmy’s original layout in the post here…..and here is my version of her awesome layout:

Isn’t this the yummiest ribbon kit to date!

I love this. It’s so fun and bright and also my favorite shade of blue. Here is what I did:

And then I did a bunch of Christmas cards. This color goes with so many of the Christmas papers out there.

Look at all the gorgeous turquoise ribbon and trim included in this kit!  Yummy!!!

My friend Jodi showed me how to make this one.  I think it’s just the cutest little pouch when you want to give more than just a card.  Also, it can be tailored to suit holidays and also the size can be changed to suit your gift.  In my sample, I used a square piece of patterned paper 9″x9″

1.)  Cut a square from a double-sided piece of patterned paper.

2.  Fold in half to form a triangle.

3.  Bring bottom left corner up until straight across and fold.

4.  Bring right corner up until straight across and fold.

5.  Bring one layer of the top point down and fold.

6.  Decorate as you wish!!!!

Here’s mine!  I have added tea as a little gift, but this would be perfect for candy, gift cards, etc.

This week’s spotlight special is buttons!!  There are sooo many things to do with buttons.  Here’s a quick card I made up using buttons and a little twine!! Soooo simple!!    Check out the store for fabulous specials….get them while they last!!   Also check out the ribbon on my card.   This is one of the ribbons featured in the November ribbon kit, which should be in the store in the next day or two.   When you’re grabbing your buttons, put one of these in your cart too as I’m sure they won’t be around long!!

This weeks Spotlight Special is Rubons. All rubons are on sale this week. T Here are so many things you can do with them. Here are a coupld examples:

I love shaped cards, but I don’t have a cricut to cut one out for me.  Tracing around chipboard shapes you can make your own.

Supplies:

Coordinating cardstock and patterned papers

Larger type chipboard shape (I used a car from a Maya Road chipboard book)

Scissors

Adhesive

Pop-dots/3D foam

Ink

sand paper

brads

alpha stickers (I used the Pink Paislee Fashion Script alphas)

stapler with staples

ribbon (I used the celadon grosgrain )

Glimmer Mist (optional)

circle punch

craft knife/xacto knife

pencil

Step One: Creating your card base

Choose your chipboard shape.  I picked out a car shape that is about the size of my hand.  When choosing a shape to use, take into account where it will be folded in the creation of your card to decide if your shape will leave enough space for stability.

I am using a double sided thicker type of patterned paper.  On the plain side of the paper, trace around your chipboard shape.  Then flip your chipboard shape, line it up,  and trace it again slightly overlapping over the top.

Cut it out and fold in half.

You may notice you didn’t cut or line up the two shapes exactly perfectly.  I know I didn’t!  Pick which side ends up not showing overlaps of the paper from below and make that be the your front side of the card.  You can use inking and sanding to hide these little flaws and add a cool technique to your card at the same time.

Step Two: Adding a layer to your card front

With a coordinating patterned paper, flip it over and trace your car chipboard shape once again.  This layer needs to be slightly smaller than your car shape card base.  If you don’t have a smaller chipboard shape of the exact same shape, as I didn’t, shift around your chipboard shape inside the bigger outline.  You may have to freehand some connecting lines or curves.  When done, cut this out.

The inner shape probably isn’t as exact as it could be, but again, we will hide our flaws with inking and sanding.  It’s fun to add a bit of texture to your card too by crumpling and un-crumpling your inner car shaped layer.

Now you have two pieces.  Place your inner car layer on top of the other layer.  The inner car layer is rounded where in the same spot on the card base it is flat to be the folded part.  So trace where this fold is at on the inner car base and snip it off.

Align inner smaller layer and adhere to card base.

Step Three:  Adding a sentiment

My card isn’t very large, so I chose a small sentiment, just the word “hi.”  You could use a smaller type stamp if you would prefer.

Punch (or trace and hand cut) a one inch circle from coordinating patterned paper.  Ink edges.  Apply alpha stickers off-centered on to the circle.

Overlap and bunch up your ribbon and staple so it stays in place.  Snip ribbon.  I like to do it at an angle just for a fun touch.

Apply adhesive to the bottom half of the circle and slip into the ribbon folds enough to where the alpha letters aren’t covered.  Apply two pop-dots/3D foam bits to the upper back half of the circle and adhere to your card top.

Step Four: Embellishing the card

I don’t like the staple lines showing through on the ribbon.  I will hide the staples and add some decoration to the card at the same time by applying brads.  Adding the brads will also help keep your ribbon in place and hold it to the card.  Using a craft knife will help you get your brad through the multiple layers.

This part is optional.  Add some sheen and shimmer to your card using glimmer mist.  I used the marshmallow white color, so I could really go crazy spraying away since it is so sheer!  If you are using a colored glimmer mist, be careful though, you don’t want to ruin your card.  You may want to test on a separate scrap of the papers you used in making your card to see how much you should spray to get the look you want to achieve.  Also be sure to spray your glimmer mist in a covered area as not to accidentally ruin your desk area or random papers you may have laying near your work area.  I used the top of an old box.

Give it plenty of time to dry.  If you sprayed too much and got shimmer globs, you can gently press down a paper towel to remove excess.  Be careful as not to smear or remove too much though.

All done!  A cute shaped card ready to send out to a friend!
