I’m not really sure what to title this How to… I altered a canvas to hold my Dogs Leashes, but you can adapt this to hold keys, or whatever you would like. The sky’s the limit!
First: Gather your Supplies:
Canvas (mine was 12 x 12)
Leash Holders (or Key Holders)
Cardboard (I used the top of the pizza box from Dinner)
First Thing I did was Mark off 2 inches around the canvas. I used a pencil, and then masking tape.
And then another to show the Masking Tape, and I already started painting at this point:
Here is the canvas with all 4 corners Grey.
You’ll noticed I took off the masking tape, and retaped using painters tape. Either one worked well, and at this point I thought I had a plan….lol
Plans changed for me, when I was unhappy as to how my corners turned out. I’m not a straight painter I guess! teehee. No fear, I just changed it up. I cut out some paw prints out of Cardstock, covered them with repositionable adhesive, and placed them in my grey squares.
I then painted over them with the black paint. I realized at this point this would have been easier to do from the beginning. Live and learn! So Once the paint was dry, I removed the cardstock, and outlined each paw print with a marker to give a little more definition.
I then proceeded to decorate the canvas however I felt like. I’m very spontaneous, even when I try to stick to the plan:)
To reinforce my leash holders, I cut up the top of our pizza box, to reinforce it in the back of the canvas. That way when I connected them to the canvas with my brads, they would not rip, and would be nice and sturdy. The nice thing about this canvas is that if you put them where I originally planned to (on the bottom) the canvas already had a wood frame you could screw into.
So at this point I gathered approx 13 inches of ribbon. I glued to the top of the canvas, with about a i/2 inch on either side. I then cut another 48 inches, and then glued that to the remaining 3 sides (bottom, and both sides), using the leftovers to tie into a knot so my canvas could hang. My canvas was 12 x 12, so you would adjust these measurements to the size of your canvas.
