Ribbon Collage

Hello out there. This is Jaklin with a new Ribbon How to/make along for you.

You’ll notice on most of my pages I include a lot of hand drawn or made embellishments. I enjoy making them, although there are soo many cute ones to purchase from a lot of great companies too. For this how-to, we’re going to make our embellishments with ribbon, creating a kind of ribbon collage. I hope you have fun. If you do a page, please post it in our SNS gallery and let me know in the forums that you played along, I’d love to see your pages 🙂

For this page, I used a lot of the new SNS June Ribbon Kit – A Day in the Yard which you can find {here} in our shop. I also used a lot of other various ribbons from SNS.

1. I started off by gathering a few things — a couple papers, a background page, my photo and a whole pile of ribbon. I like a whole bunch of colors on my page, I rarely stick to a color scheme. Go with whatever feels right to you. (I usually don’t use much more than this on a page — I fill in with markers, paints, pencil crayons, etc…)

2. I ripped up some papers and placed a few things, getting ready to add ribbon.

3. When it comes to using the ribbon on the page, I looked not only at color, but texture of the trims. I wanted to created an outdoor scene, so I looked at what trims would fit in for grass, trees, flowers, clouds, etc… Look through your ribbon stash at the different textures when you’re thinking about what to create. The following pictures will help illustrate what I mean by this.

I used the green pom pom from the a Day in the Yard kit to make grass hills, and flower stems.

4. I created a few flowers. The pink one I made by looping and folding ribbon.

5. The blue one I used a needle and thread to gather it. I used foam to adhere.

6. Mr. Sweaters must have known the page was about him and he wanted to help.

7. I made a house, by cutting one block off this trim.

8. I made a tree trunk with brown pom pom and twirled the green pom pom for the leaves.

9. Here is a really fuzzy picture (sorry) of the clouds I added with some huge white rikrak.

10. I added my title in hand writing, a few leaves with green rikrak, and I cut a flower off some flower trim from SNS for my third stem.

11. My finished page with lots lots of writing and doodling and a sticky note from Brooke to Mr. Sweaters.

I hope you enjoyed this, and that I’ve given you a few ideas. Please don’t forget to share your pages with us over at the SavvynSassy Forums and Gallery.
