I know I keep saying the monthly ribbon kits are awesome, but this one was really awesome. It’s called Sandbox Play and let me tell you, play I did
I made a chinese food take out container for my daughter. She graduated from dental hygiene school and this was her gift. The fortune cookies had messages of encouragement from all of us to her and the container itself contained her gift. I used the beige grograin ribbon on the handle and the brown loopy ribbon on the tag. The paper line that I used is My Mind’s Eye and is available in the store as well. I added some Prima bling to the tag. The container shape was cut with my Silhouette.
With this layout, I wanted to add texture. I mixed the ribbon with bands of the patterned paper at the bottom in a curved pattern. Aside from the ribbon from the kit, I used My Mind’s Eye Breaking Free papers and embellishments. I also used cork and some Jilly Bean Soup journalling spot and alpha.
I kept this layout clean and simple. I love the bauble trim from the ribbon kit and wanted it to draw attention to the centre of the layout. The paper is Jilly Bean Soup. The butterflies and title is cut out using the Silhouette.
This layout also features papers and embellishments from the My Mind’s Eye Breaking Free collection. I distressed all the layers and used lots of Glimmer spray. See the interesting border across the bottom of the layout? That is a bath scrunchie that I cut up and used on my layout. (just goes to show you, you can use anything) I sopped up the excess glimmer mist with the flower to give it that grunge appearance as well. The brown loopie ribbon really worked well with this paper.
The canvas features the ribbons in a different light….. as flowers. I coated the canvas in gesso and then pressed a piece of cardboard into it to leave the indentations. I sprayed it with glimmermist and inked it with distress inks. The bird cage is all Tim Holtz. (both papers and die cut) The crystals at the base of the cage are Maya Road. The bling is Prima. The chain is a remnant from a stained glass project that I made. The word “create” was cut out with my Silhouette.
I hope you enjoyed my July reveal….. and I hope you have fun with the July ribbon kit, I know I sure did!!
